COVID-19 is Changing the Drinking Habits of Americans on Lockdown

CORONAVIRUS IS CAUSING A DRAMATIC SHIFT IN THE DRINKING HABITS OF AMERICANS ON LOCKDOWN

As more and more Americans were being ordered to stay home and "shelter in place," we noticed some interesting trends, like the increase in popularity of alcohol delivery apps and the rise of video happy hours. Everywhere we looked, it seemed like people around the country were certainly drinking more while under quarantine. But we wondered, are people actually drinking more at home?

To answer this question, we examined the anonymous BAC data from BACtrack App users (which connects to our bluetooth-enabled smartphone breathalyzers) before and after quarantine. Select a city or state below to see the results!

Methodology

As always, the purpose of our BACtrack Consumption Reports is to provide insight into alcohol consumption patterns to encourage people to consider the effects of alcohol and make smarter decisions.

Data for this BACtrack Consumption Report was collected anonymously from users of the BACtrack App which connects with BACtrack Mobile, C6 and C8 smartphone breathalyzers via Bluetooth. Data is viewed in aggregate and represents unique BAC tests from March and April 2020. Data used in this report was collected from U.S. users only with data storage activated, location services turned on, and does not represent data from all users.
