BACtrack analyzes anonymous Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) data to gain insight into alcohol consumption patterns and create a dialogue around BAC.

Here we examine NFL fans' average BAC levels for Sunday games for the 2017 season through Sunday, December 3rd.

We used Twitter's map of NFL fan allegiance in order to associate BAC results with NFL teams across the country. BAC data points are collected anonymously from users of BACtrack Mobile, BACtrack's award-winning smartphone breathalyzer.


NFL Fans with the Highest Average BAC Levels

Cowboys fans' average BAC level was the highest at 0.062% followed closely by Patriots' fans at 0.061%.

NFL Fans with the Lowest Average BAC Levels

Fans of these five East Coast NFL teams have the lowest average BAC levels on game days -- they're more than 50% lower than the highest average BACs. 

The Highs and the Lows

From 0.024% up to 0.062% BAC, there's a wide range of imbibing on game days.

While these BAC levels are below the legal limit of 0.08%, it's important to note they're still unsafe levels at which to drive. It's dangerous to have any amount of alcohol in your system when driving.

We utilized Twitter's map of NFL fan allegiance in order to associate BAC results with NFL teams across the country. (Note adjustments were made due to team relocation).

Data for the BACtrack NFL Consumption Report was collected anonymously from users of BACtrack Mobile, and represents unique BAC tests collected from users in the U.S. for the Sunday games during 2017 NFL football season, September 10, 2017, to December 3, 2017. Data used in the BACtrack Consumption Report is collected from users with location services turned on and does not represent data from all users. See all past BACtrack Consumption Reports.

When alcohol is consumed, it is absorbed from the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines into the bloodstream.

As blood flows through the lungs, alcohol in the bloodstream moves across the membranes of the lung’s air sacs (alveoli) into the air.
